<description>Perhaps you heard it about Dataupia, correctly or otherwise. They probably do compete w/ both ParAccel (plug-compatibility) and Netezza (general row-based architecture). And I haven't heard much about them in the marketplace.

But again, I'd be very cautious about such rumors unless you have really solid information, and in most cases even then.

Best,

<description>I must have mixed up DATAllegro with
another database company after all
that New Year champagne!

Sorry for the confusion and apologies
to Stuart and his crew.

		<description>The rumors are complete nonsense.

We're in good shape financially and there've been no layoffs. As for losing sales to competitors, we win some and lose some to Netezza, but I'm not aware of any losses to Greenplum or ParAccel. In fact, we rarely come across either of them.

As Curt rightly stated, we focus on a relatively small number of very large deals. Unlike some of our competitors, we don't have to give our product away to get references, so we're doing very nicely.

Among the newer vendors in the data warehouse market, our sales put us in a solid second place behind Netezza - far ahead of any other player. We're also growing around eight times faster than Netezza and therefore catching up very quickly.

Where did you get your incorrect information, Jaune?

<description>I might add that nothing I've heard has changed my perception that DATAllegro relies on getting large sales to a small number of customers.

<description>I talked Thursday for an hour to a venture capitalist considering investment in them. To say at this point that they failed to raise a round of capital is greatly exaggerated.

As for anecdotal sales reports -- they need to be assessed carefully. A skilled salesperson will try early in a sales cycle, see that things are going badly, and pull out and go focus elsewhere. Whether they were ever in that deal or not depends strongly upon who you ask.

<description>Anyone heard rumors DATAllegro is faltering and may be
soon going out of business? Apparently they failed to
raise another round of funding, are running out of
cash, and losing sales to Greenplum, Netezza and
ParAccel. They just had a big layoff.

CAM, have you heard anything about it?
